Our court square has been the scene of many dramatic and some tragic events which helped shape who we are as Shelby Countians. None was more dramatic than what occurred on a soft evening in the summer of 1918. When the news of the death of our first soldier reached town, the reaction was sudden and dramatic. A large crowd gathered there to witness the burning of all the German textbooks in the schools. What happened that night was a true test of our local democratic principles.
Sponsored by the Shelby County Bar Association.
This event is free and open to the public.
