The Shelby County Genealogical Society and the Shelby County Historical Society proudly welcome Erin Pence. She will present the story of 69 people forced to leave their home in Baden, Germany, who relocated to the United States in 1855. Erin, an avid researcher of genealogy and local history, serves as the University Photographer for Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio.

Learn to uncover your family story, using the Archive’s resources: public records, manuscripts, photographs, books and newspapers at the Ohio History Center. A joint program with the Shelby County Historical Society.

Historic Pontoon Boat Rides of Lake Loramie will be held on Saturday, Aug. 11. The event will take place at Earl’s Island Pavilion, State Route 362, in Lake Loramie State Park.

The rides will take approximately 45 minutes and will feature the original purpose of the lake, how it was formed and the various landings around the lake.

The Lake Loramie Heritage Museum, will be open from 1-4 p.m. and is free and open to the public as well. Stop in and see photos of nesting Eagles and their offspring, as well as some of the more unusual birds and wildlife observed at Lake Loramie.

The Shelby County Historical Society will be participating in the Ohio History Connection’s “Ohio Open Doors” event. Five locations in Sidney will be open for free tours throughout the day at the following times:

Peoples Federal Bank- 9 a.m.- Noon, 101 East Court Street

GreatStone Castle- 10 a.m.- Noon, 429 North Ohio Avenue

Ross Historical Center- 1 p.m.- 3 p.m., 201 North Main Avenue

Monumental Building- 1 p.m.- 3 p.m., Corner of Court Street and Ohio Avenue

Civil War Living History Weekend- 10 a.m.- 8 p.m., Tawawa Park, 12 Tawawa Drive

Celebrate the Season with a “Simply Sinatra Christmas”! World-renowned Frank Sinatra interpreter Steve Lippia performs a festive holiday show featuring some of the most well-know and beloved Frank Sinatra songs along with a variety of popular Christmas selections. This show is a wonderful blend of holiday cheer, musical memories, and jazz/swing standards with an energetic flair that only a big band can provide.
